Germany Strengthens Support for Ukraine with New Batch of Military Equipment.

On April 10, 2024, Germany announced a new batch of military support for Ukraine, reinforcing its commitment to Kyiv in the conflict against Russia. This support includes a Warthog command vehicle, specially designed to operate in difficult terrain conditions, which will enhance Ukrainian command capabilities on the ground. Additionally, Germany has provided 6,000 155mm artillery shells, essential for Ukrainian offensive operations and the defense of its positions.

The aid also includes a significant technological component with the delivery of 16 VECTOR reconnaissance drones and 30 RQ-35 HEIDRUN drones. These devices will enhance reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities, crucial for intelligence gathering and battlefield management. In response to the increasing use of drones by opposing forces, Germany has also included 30 range extension kits for anti-drone devices, thus boosting Ukrainian defenses against unmanned aerial threats.

Germany has supplied 6,000 155 mm artillery shells. These munitions are essential to support Ukraine's counter-offensive operations, providing a long-range striking capability against enemy forces. The VECTOR is a reconnaissance drone designed to offer exceptional autonomy and range under varied operational conditions. With a maximum takeoff weight of 8.5 kg, it can maintain flight for 180 minutes, allowing it to cover a distance of up to 180 km at a cruise speed of 17 m/s. Its ability to operate across a wide temperature range, from -20°C to 45°C, makes it extremely versatile for missions in challenging environments. The VECTOR also stands out for its data link range of over 35 km. With a wingspan of 2.8 m, it is relatively compact, and its transport system, weighing 8.2 kg and measuring 80 x 54 x 34.5 cm, facilitates mobility and rapid deployment in the field. The drone's cruise speed varies between 15 and 20 m/s.

The RQ-35 Heidrun is a fixed-wing, unmanned aerial system (UAS), designed for low-altitude video surveillance and reconnaissance missions. This combat-proven drone is distinguished by its ability to provide a live video feed over more than 30 km, making it an ideal tool for gaining immediate situational awareness of critical areas. The RQ-35 can be launched and recovered quickly and easily, which is essential for operations in complex environments requiring high mobility. In terms of specifications, the RQ-35 has a wingspan of 1650 mm and a takeoff weight of 2.6 kg. It can fly for up to 100 minutes, with an improved battery version allowing for up to 135 minutes of flight. Its ability to withstand winds up to 12 m/s and operate across a wide temperature range, from -20°C to 45°C, enhances its versatility.
