Hensoldt supplies panoramic vision system for RCH self-propelled howitzer.

Hensoldt, a leader in sensor solutions, has finalized a sale of its panoramic vision system SETAS (See Through Armour System) to KNDS, a major defense entity in Germany. This significant order includes 54 units, with the transaction value amounting to several tens of millions of euros. SETAS will be integrated into KNDS's advanced self-propelled artillery system, the RCH 155.

The SETAS system is a day and night-observation technology for armored vehicles. It provides high-resolution electro-optical vision capabilities, enabling crew members to achieve complete situational awareness around their vehicle without exposure to external threats. This system is capable of early detection and classification of potential threats, thanks to its integration of high-resolution color cameras for daylight and advanced thermal imaging technology.

Future enhancements of the SETAS system include automatic image processing features such as Moving Target Indication (MTI) and object tracking, further facilitating data management for complete 360-degree crew awareness. The system's modular design and open interface architecture, compliant with NGVA standards, ensure seamless integration into both existing and new vehicle platforms, offering a variety of human-machine interface (HMI) options, including standard and smart displays, smart glasses, and tablets.

The RCH 155 is a mobile artillery system designed by Germany, equipped with a 155mm/L52 caliber cannon. The vehicle's armor is designed to withstand modern threats, with a hull meeting STANAG 4569 level 4 standards, protecting small arms fire and artillery shell splinters, while the turret benefits from reinforced protection.

The RCH 155 is used by Ukraine and weighs 39 tons, though it displays significant mobility with a maximum speed of 100 km/h, allowing it to quickly reposition on the battlefield. Its operational range is 700 kilometers.

Auxiliary equipment of the RCH 155 includes an automatic electrical gun laying system, a computerized fire control system, a radio data transmission connection, air conditioning, as well as NBC (Nuclear, Bacteriological, and Chemical) protection and a fire extinguishing system in the engine compartment. This array of accessories emphasizes the focus on ease of operation, crew safety, and vehicle versatility.

The RCH 155 is designed for a crew of two people, indicating advanced automation of its systems to minimize the personnel needed for its operation. It has dimensions of 10.5 meters in length, 2.99 meters in width, and 3.6 meters in height. In summary, the RCH 155 represents an advanced mobile artillery solution, combining firepower, mobility, protection, and modern technologies to meet the demands of contemporary conflicts.

A novel feature of SETAS is its ability to allow crew members to see through their vehicle's armor using a helmet-mounted display, offering a perspective similar to observing "from above." Coupled with intelligent software algorithms, this provides automatic alerts to the crew about potential threats in their vicinity. The system's design for both standalone and integrated use makes it a versatile solution for enhancing situational awareness across various military platforms.
