Sikorski emphasized that the newly formed Polish government is reevaluating its approach to the situation in Ukraine with a fresh perspective. Foreign Minister Kuleba advocates for a stronger alliance between Ukraine and Poland.
The Foreign Minister highlighted ongoing assessments regarding Poland's capacity to increase its production of ammunition and military equipment. He also mentioned the potential resources available in Poland's existing stockpiles.
Furthermore, Sikorski conveyed to Western allies the significant financial implications of Russia's aggression if Ukraine were to fall. He insisted that the immediate expenses of providing military support to Kyiv are considerably lower than the potential future costs of containing Russian aggression after a Ukrainian defeat.
Sikorski expressed to the allies that the financial burden of deterring President Putin, if he succeeds in Ukraine, would far exceed the costs of providing Ukraine with the necessary weapons to effectively resist his aggressive actions.
The previous Polish government had chosen to significantly reduce aid to Ukraine just before the elections, and unfortunately for them, they lost those elections. The question then arose about the path the new Polish government would take regarding its support for Ukraine. Apparently, Poland has ultimately decided to continue supporting the Ukrainian armed forces.
However, it remains to be seen how this assistance will materialize on the ground and whether it will be a long-term commitment. Additionally, the primary support also depends on the United States, and if political changes have favored Ukraine in Poland, it is uncertain whether the same will apply in the United States. This story reminds us all that it is always important to keep an eye on elections around the world as they can change the dynamics on the battlefield.
