German company Rheinmetall Defense announced on March 04, 2024, a significant achievement in securing a contract to provide multiple rocket launcher ammunition to a European member of NATO. The delivery of this ammunition is scheduled to occur between 2024 and 2027.

This lucrative contract, which was finalized in December 2023, signifies a substantial sales volume for Rheinmetall, exceeding €300 million, excluding value-added tax. The production and delivery of these rockets, boasting a maximum range of 300 km, will be overseen by Rheinmetall Expal Munitions of Spain. Additionally, the order includes supplementary services and systems.
This marks Rheinmetall's inaugural sales triumph in the realm of rocket artillery, validating the recent strategic diversification of its product portfolio. Notably, on February 12th, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz participated in a groundbreaking ceremony at Unterlüß in Lower Saxony for a new factory dedicated to the production of explosives, artillery ammunition, and rocket artillery components.
With expertise spanning artillery systems such as 120mm smoothbore tank ammunition, cannon-based air defense, and medium-caliber ammunition production, Rheinmetall maintains its position as a leading global supplier. Throughout its over 125-year history, the company has remained a trusted partner to the artillery branch, supplying seamless barrels for heavy artillery.

In August, the German company Rheinmetall completed the acquisition of the Spanish company, previously known as Expal Systems, in a transaction valued at $1.3 billion. Following the acquisition, the purchased firm, now operating under Rheinmetall Expal munitions, has maintained its operations in Spain and intends to pursue expansion opportunities of multicaliber munition, mortars, and grenade production.
