According to Rheinmetall's press release, the contract includes the production of 81mm MX2-KM mortars as well as various types of mortar cartridges, including for white light illumination, infrared illumination, and smoke discharge, which are being produced at the Neuenburg am Rhein plant. These munitions use Red Phosphorus (RP) as a base for smoke operations, highlighting Rheinmetall’s commitment to innovation in munitions technologies.

The ammunition delivery is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025, also including additional services related to the product launch. These specially adapted munitions for the MX2-KM mortar will be integrated into the Swiss Armed Forces, forming a coherent and efficient weapon system.

Qualification tests for these munitions took place at a testing site in Spain, where the cartridges were tested under operational conditions to ensure their performance and reliability. The success of these tests confirms Rheinmetall's position as a leader in the production of high-precision mortar ammunition.

This contract not only illustrates Switzerland's confidence in Rheinmetall's technology but also highlights the growing importance of international defense and security collaborations. With increasing tensions on several international fronts, the demand for sophisticated and reliable defense equipment is higher than ever, placing Rheinmetall at the forefront of the global defense market.
