Sentinel's capabilities include side- and top-attack protection, making it effective against fuzed threats such as ATGMs, RPGs, and recoilless rifle rounds. Furthermore, it can safeguard against loitering threats like drones and other UAVs carrying munitions. Sentinel can even counter tank-fired and other kinetic rounds, making it a versatile defense solution.
This digitally driven system is designed for rapid adaptability on the battlefield, with the ability to defend against emerging threats through simple software upgrades. This not only enhances the safety of warfighters but also contributes to mission success while reducing long-term maintenance costs.
One of Sentinel's notable features is its modular design, allowing militaries to easily install the A-Kit (mounting brackets and cables) on all their ground vehicles, including main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and troop carriers. The B-Kit can be swiftly added to vehicles as they deploy into dangerous areas. Additionally, Sentinel can be used independently or in conjunction with other vehicle protection systems, such as explosive reactor armor.
Safety is paramount in Sentinel's design, with dual sensors virtually eliminating the risk of false alarms and subsequent false firing. The system employs high-speed sensing and parallel processing to intercept and neutralize multiple threats close to the vehicle, minimizing collateral damage and ensuring the safety of vehicle occupants, dismounted troops, and civilians.
Sentinel is highly adaptable and can be integrated into various ground vehicles, including tracked or wheeled platforms, as well as fixed sites like buildings and infrastructure. It builds upon the success of previous Artis systems, which have been tested on vehicles like the Stryker, the Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV), the M-ATV, and the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (Humvee).
Sentinel is proudly manufactured in the USA and offers an array of features, including advanced radar queueing capabilities, enhanced optical sensors for improved target recognition, more potent countermeasures, a redesigned digital architecture for expanded protection, extensive multi-shot capability, all-weather protection against diverse threats, system modularity with compatibility for the U.S. Army's Vehicle Base Kit, ruggedized solid-state components, built-in test capability, and cost-effective lifecycle sustainment.
Artis embarked on APS development in 2004 as part of a DARPA project, achieving early success during its initial live-fire test. Over time, the system underwent rigorous government testing, earning high praise, including a perfect score during a live-fire test in the Army's Ground Combat Vehicle program. Artis places a strong emphasis on safety, with its software architecture approved through the Joint Services Weapons Safety Review process. Today, Sentinel stands as a smart and reliable choice for vehicle protection.
