Speaking to FNA on Sunday, Deputy Commander of the Iranian Navy for Research and Self-sufficiency Jihad Capitan Mansour Maqsoudlou pointed to the Navy's plan to equip Jamaran destroyer with a highly advanced semi-conductor radar system with fuzzy arranged flat antennas, and said, "Installing such radar systems (on a vessel) is done after three stages of testing, including factory tests, onshore tests, and sea tests."

In this case, "factory tests have already been done and the next two stages will be accomplished by the end of the year", Maqsoudlou noted.

The commander said once the radar system is mounted on Jamaran successfully, the Navy will equip its other vessels with this hi-tech radar system.

He added that the radar system enjoys a high capability in shielding jamming signals and can be used to direct several missiles towards multiple targets simultaneously.

Iran's naval power has even been acknowledged by foes. In a Sep. 11, 2008 report, the Washington Institute for the Near East Policy said that in the two decades since the Iraqi imposed war on Iran, the Islamic Republic has excelled in naval capabilities and is able to wage unique asymmetric warfare against larger naval forces.

According to the report, Iran's Navy has been transformed into a highly motivated, well-equipped, and well-financed force and is effectively in control of the world's oil lifeline, the Strait of Hormuz.
