Austal
will be showcasing its ships, systems and support offerings on its stand
at Euronaval, to be held in Paris from the 22 – 26 October 2012.
A model of the Cape Class Patrol Boat Austal currently under construction
for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service will be on
display. Designed, built and supported by Austal, the eight Cape Class
Patrol Boats will play a significant role in protecting Australia’s
borders from multiple maritime threats and will provide enhanced capability
to operate in more severe sea conditions than the current Customs and
Border Protection fleet. The 58 metre aluminium monohulls can operate
at 25 knots and have a range in excess of 4000 nautical miles. Each
can undertake simultaneous operations with two embarked 7.3 metre rigid
hulled response vessels. |
The project
will also be the first use of Austal’s new IMARCS situational
awareness and data collection system. IMARCS enables commanders to increase
capability through the achievement of tactical and operational situational
awareness; coordination of maritime, air and coastal units; sharing
of sensor data among units on a single common operating picture; search
and rescue, patrol area or task allocation; over the horizon communications;
and enhanced safety, boarding operations and security alerts.
Austal is also displaying a model of its Multi Role Vessel (MRV), showcasing
the latest in modular systems and advanced combat ship technology. Similar
in concept to the Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) designed
and built by Austal for the United States Navy, the MRV utilises the
advanced aluminium trimaran hull form. The MRV offers high speed, increased
manoeuvrability, low crew fatigue, shallow draft, modular missions and
aviation facilities for operations in a range of maritime environments.
Austal will be sharing a stand with Australian company CEA. Austal and
CEA have enjoyed a close working relationship for a number of years,
working together on several domestic and international projects including
the Cape Class Patrol Boat. |
