BERNARD Shipyard, specialised in all weather rescue & patrol boats

The french BERNARD shipyard will participate for the 2nd time to the Euronaval exhibition on the stand n° D19 C20, the regional stand of companies from Brittany.

Our shipyard, located in south Britanny in the Lorient roads, has been building working boats since 1969 in Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) from 10m to 25m.

First, our shipyard has built many fishing boats suh as trawlers and netters for all the regions of France.

Then, we have been specialised in rescue boats building for the french rescue institution SNSM (Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer) by delivering 90 units from 10m to 17m.

By this way, we have concepted and built all weather boats : unsinkable and self-righting.

The patented "beak" hull of ORC class boats was developed in 1995 by the BERNARD shipyards and our naval architect partner with the purpose of improving seakeeping and speed of planing hulls in rough seas, without lowering other ship criteria such as speed in calm water, fuel savings or stability.

This hull design has proved to have good behaviour at high speed in head and following seas.

In 2000, our ORC 140 model (14m) was selected by the SNSM for the renewal of a fleet of 25 lifeboats. These units are in service along the french coasts of Channel, Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. By sailing in all weathers in rough seas, these boats have proved their exemplary behaviour at high speed. The crew members of the rescue fleet are very proud of this efficient boat.

In the same time, the hull design has been also chosen by the main french pilots stations (Le Havre, St Nazaire...) and by major foreign pilots stations (Bremen, Ostende..).

The French Coast Guard & Customs Administration has selected our new ORC 120 12m model. Four units are in building at this time, the first one of the series will be soon delivered.
