Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani inaugurates DIMDEX 2012 |

DOHA
– 26 MAR 2012: His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Heir
Apparent of Qatar and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Qatar Armed Forces
yesterday officially inaugurated the third Doha International Maritime
Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2012).
His Highness was greeted by His Excellency Major General Hamad Bin Ali
Al-Attiyah Chief of Staff, Qatar Armed Forces and Staff Brigadier (Sea)
Mohammed Bin Nasser Al Mohannadi, Chairman of DIMDEX 2012. The opening
address saw hundreds of the world’s leading Naval figures and
delegates from the 51 participating countries gather in the conference
hall at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) to honour the Heir Apparent
and celebrate the opening of this year’s event. Following the
official welcome, the Heir Apparent toured the exhibition space, currently
home to over 140 companies from 25 different countries represented in
this year’s edition.

“His
Highness Sheikh Tamim’s continued support and patronage of DIMDEX
has helped to make it the region’s leading maritime defence exhibition
and conference, and it is thanks to the vision of Qatar’s leadership
that DIMDEX has won its international reputation” Staff Brigadier
(Sea) Al Mohannadi stated at the inauguration, adding “it gives
me great honour to greet His Highness to this event and demonstrate
Qatar’s unrivalled ability in hosting world-class events”.
Al Mohannadi went on to thank His Excellency Major
General Hamad Bin Ali Al-Attiyah Chief of Staff, Qatar Armed Forces
for his continued dedication, leadership and support, adding that
the success of DIMDEX was greatly thanks to his commitment to the
exhibition and conference.

During
the tour, HH Sheikh Tamim met with a number of VIP Delegates from participating
countries, senior military figures, Ministers of Defence, Chiefs of
Staff and representatives of the countries taking part in DIMDEX 2012.
The most advanced edition to date, DIMDEX 2012 has surpassed the success
of previous years, attracting more exhibitors and ensuring high levels
of participation. This unique event, the only comprehensive maritime
defence exhibition and conference in the region, is set to advance knowledge
in maritime issues and offer an opportunity for exhibitors to highlight
the latest advances in naval technology. |

In addition to DIMDEX 2012
and the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC), which brings
together the region’s top Naval Commanders, thinkers and academics
to discuss the current state of maritime security, the presence of
the latest warships at Doha Commercial Port serves to reinforce the
importance of the exhibition and conference as one of the world’s
foremost military events held in the MENA region.
