MEDAV to introduce the new version of CRS-8000 for COMMS-ESM tasks at Euronaval 2012

MEDAV reached a new milestone with the current version of the CRS-8000 system: new features and improved functionality make the star product of the German mid-size company more attractive to those who are busy with reconnaissance and frequency management for submarines and ships in tactical applications.

This compact reconnaissance system CRS-8000 is well-known for its manifold possibilities of use and for its reliable signal processing in radio reconnaissance.

It uses wideband technology for direction finding and monitoring up to 6 GHz, and is characterised by its outstanding sensitivity, which allows the reliable detection even of very weak signals.

Live signals can be demodulated and decoded automatically. To this, a wide extent of demodulation and decoding tools are available. If a signal meets certain conditions, the system can issue an alarm and thus draw the operator’s attention to this signal.

Wideband as well as narrowband signals can be recorded and passed to a later processing, these options are also available for LPI signals (bursts, hoppers, ...). This enables operators to analyse signals online and offline, that is: they can analyse the “life” signal at the instance it is received, or they later analyse the recording. The operators are equipped with a large set of tools for these tasks.

The system concept is based on the proven SDIA design (Software defined intelligence architecture) and allows a high degree of modularity and flexibility in order to be able to implement customer requirements quickly with little effort at any time. Furthermore, the system can be used on most different platforms, be it on land, on water or in the air, even under difficult environmental circumstances.

All of these merits are still part of the new version, but new functions are added facilitating the work of the operators with the system significantly.

» Map Function: Comprehensive map views and map functions allow the identification and localisation of an emitter at first sight. Additionally, emitters and other objects in the map can be tagged with specific properties allowing filtering and easy fading objects in and out on the map. Measurement of distances between objects in the map is also easy possible.
» Graphical Displays: To the existing graphical displays, with which detailed signal measurements are possible, now elevation and direction finding quality are added.
» Emitter Tracking: Once an emitter was identified, its direction or location can be determined repeatedly, so that a movement profile (track) can be generated.
» Alarms: This function was improved: with the new version, operators can set alarm conditions easier and more clearly than before.
» Wideband Recording: the bandwidth of recordings was raised up to 16 MHz.
» Use of AIS Information: AIS Information of emitters is displayed. (AIS – Automatic Identification System is a radio system for exchange of navigation and other data for safety and guidance in shipping traffic.)
