As
can be seen in the above infographic released by the French military central
command (Etat-Major des Armées) on December 10, 2015, the CSG is
now composed of: » Nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle » Horizon class Air Defense Destroyer Chevalier Paul (classified as Frigate in the French Navy) » Leygues class ASW Frigate La Motte-Picquet » Durance class replenishment oiler Marne » One Rubis class submarine (SSN) » Type 45 Daring-class Anti-Air Warfare Destroyer HMS Defender (Royal Navy) » F122 Bremen-class Frigate Augsburg (German Navy) » Karel Doorman-class frigate ("M-Frigate") Leopold I (Belgian Navy) It was also revealed that the French CSG will be joined by the U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier USS Harry S. Truman (and its CSG) in mid-December in the Persian Gulf. According to U.S. Navy officials, military planners had weighed keeping the carrier in the Eastern Med for airstrikes, but decided that the Persian Gulf was a more effective region from which to launch strikes. The French Navy Horizon class Air Defense Destroyer Forbin is part of the Truman CSG. About Type 45 Destroyer: Designed by BAE Systems, the Type 45 is an Anti-Air Warfare Destroyer conceived to protect UK and allied/coalition forces at sea and in the littoral against the full range of enemy aircraft and anti-ship missiles. About Bremen-class Frigate: The Bremen-class Frigates are versatile vessels of the German Navy able to address multiple threats (above water, underwater and airborne) but with a specialization in anti-submarine warfare thanks to the two 2 Sea Lynx Mk.88A helicopters onboard. |
