Australian Government has requested up to 80 Raytheon RIM-66M-09 SM-2
Block IIIB STANDARD Vertical Launching Tactical All-Up missiles, up to
15 MK 97 SM-2 Block IIIB Guidance Sections, MK 13 MOD 0 Vertical Launching
System Canisters, operator manuals and technical documentation, US Government
and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services. The new missiles will enhance the Australian Navy’s area air-defence capabilities and complement the SM-2 Block IIIA missiles of the Perry-class frigates. The three Hobart-class Air Warfare Destroyers of Australia will incorporate the phased-array AN/SPY-1D(V) radar, which along with the missiles it will be able to engage aerial targets at distances over 150 km and altitudes up to 65,000 ft. About the Standard Missile-2 SM-2s are the world's premier fleet-area air defense weapons. The missiles are also capable of providing extended-area air defense. -- SM-2's international customers include: Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Spain and Taiwan -- SM-2 has been integrated with both Aegis and non-Aegis combat weapon systems. -- The missile can be launched from the MK-41, MK-13 and MK-26 launchers. -- SM-2 has an extensive flight test history of more than 2,500 successful flight tests -- More than 5,000 SM-2s have been delivered to the US and allied customers. |
