China's 23rd Type 054A Frigate & 5th Type 082II MCM Vessel Commissioned in PLAN
 
The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) commissioned today its 23rd Type 054A Frigate (Jiangkai II-class) "Binzhou" (hull number 515) and an additional Type 082II (Wozang-class) mine countermeasure vessel "Donggang" (hull number 814). The Type 054A Frigate commissioning ceremony took place at Zhoushan naval base. The frigate joins the PLAN East Sea Fleet. The MCM vessel joins the PLAN North Sea Fleet. Its commissioning ceremony took place at Dalian naval base (in Northeast China).

Type 054A Frigate
Based on the Type 054 Frigates, the Type 054A incorporated a larger number of more-advanced indigenous systems. The first of class entered service with the PLAN in 2007.

Type 054A Frigates are fitted with 32 VLS (Vertical Launch System) cells for HQ-16 surface to air missiles, 8x YJ-83 (export designation C-803) anti-ship missiles, a H/PJ-26 76mm main gun, two H/PJ12 (export designation Type 730) seven-barreled 30mm CIWS guns (for frigates 1 to 16 in the series) or H/PJ11 eleven-barreled 30mm CIWS (export designation Type 1130) for new vessels starting with Huanggang (hull number 577) the seventeenth ship of the class. Two triple YU-7 torpedo launchers and anti-submarine rocket launchers are fitted for ASW warfare.

"Binzhou" (hull number 515) was built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, launched in December 2015. It is the third frigate of the class to be commissioned this year, following "Jingzhou" (hull number 532) in January and "Xiangtan" (hull number 531) in February.

Type 082II mine countermeasure vessel
The Type 082II mine countermeasure vessel (NATO designation: Wozang-class) is the modern development of the base Type 082. The first unit of the Type 082II-class, "Huoqiu" (number 804) was launched in 2004 and entered PLAN service in June 2005. The second unit "Kunshan" (hull number 818) entered service in December 2011. "Donggang" (hull number 814) is likely the fifth vessel of the class to be commissioned.

The Type 082 II MCM vessel displaces 575 tonnes, has a length of 55 m, and a beam of 9.3 m. A crane is installed aft to deploy mine warfare systems such as remotely operated vehicle. Some Chinese internet sources have claimed that from the second unit, an all fiberglass construction was used, while the first ship of class was fiberglass superstructure mounted on low magnetic signature steel hull. All vessels of the class are reportedly built by Qiuxin Shipyard at Shanghai.
