The
carrier group protects the 260 meter long "Charles de Gaulle"
against threats from all dimensions according to the "nothing comes
close" principle. The escort vessels guarantee the freedom of movement
of the carrier and therefore of the combat and reconnaissance operations
of the aircraft engaged against Daesh. The "Augsburg" with its 200-member crew was already escorting the "Charles de Gaulle" from 6 December 2015 to 12 March 2016 (and the 3,200-strong task force under French leadership). About Bremen-class Frigate: The Bremen-class Frigates are versatile vessels of the German Navy able to address multiple threats (above water, underwater and airborne) but with a specialization in anti-submarine warfare thanks to the two 2 Sea Lynx Mk.88A helicopters onboard. |
