"After
a series of Project 636.3 submarines designed for Russia’s Pacific
Fleet is built, we will discuss the construction of diesel-electric
submarines of another project for the Northern and Baltic Fleets. Of
course, the talk is about the fifth generation," the deputy
commander said.
Speaking about the Project 636.3 submarine, Fedotenkov said that
it was necessary "to develop this series."
"The series is successful. The Project 636.3 submarine is armed
with a cruise missile system. The submarine can search for antisubmarine
warfare ships in a more effective manner," the deputy commander
said.
"Also, the submarine incorporates many cutting-edge technologies,"
he added.
It was reported earlier that Russia was developing the fifth-generation
Kalina-class diesel-electric submarine. The submarine is planned to
be equipped with an air-independent propulsion unit and combine the
best characteristics of the Project 636 and Project 677 submarines.
