Russia’s Project 11711 Large Amphibious Assault Ship Ivan Gren LST Starts Sea Trials

Russia’s Project 11711 large amphibious assault ship Ivan Gren has started undergoing shipbuilders’ trials in Baltiysk in west Russia, the Yantar Shipyard’s press office said. The vessel is not planned to return to the shipyard where it has been built, the press office added.

The Russian Navy is expected to adopt for service the advanced Futlyar deep-water torpedo that is undergoing its official tests now, a source in defense industry has told TASS. According to the source, the Futlyar is an upgraded variant of the Fizik homing torpedo that has entered service recently.

"On June 17, the large amphibious assault ship Ivan Gren arrived at the acceptance base in Baltiysk. This day was announced as the beginning of shipbuilders’ trials that will be held at Russian Baltic Fleet ranges in the Baltic Sea," the press office said.

"There is no reason for the vessel’s unplanned return to the shipyard’s water area," the press office added. Media outlets reported earlier that the large amphibious assault ship Ivan Gren had problems with the magnetic field and might return to the shipyard where its hull would be remade.
