The six Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarines
are designed for Russia’s Pacific Fleet, he added. "The
two shipyards are ready to build submarines of this type. A final decision
has not been made yet. Probably, the order will be divided in several
parts and the shipyards will accomplish each of the parts,"
Tryapichnikov said. According to the head, this issue is currently under
consideration.
"A decision will be made as soon as a discussion is held about
whether the shipyards have the potential to fulfill the order and when
they will be able to construct the submarines," he added.
As of today, the Russian Black Sea Fleet operates four Project 636.3
submarines. The Russian Navy received the lead submarine Novorossiysk
in August 2014 and the second Project 636.3 submarine Rostov-on-Don
on December 30, 2014.
In late 2015, the submarine Rostov-on-Don launched Kalibr cruise missiles
from the Mediterranean Sea to destroy facilities of the Islamic State
terrorist organization (outlawed in Russia) in Syria. The third Project
636.3 submarine Stary Oskol joined the Russian Navy in July 2015. The
fourth submarine Krasnodar was delivered to the Navy on November 5,
2015. All these submarines were built at the Admiralty Wharves Shipyard.
The fifth and the sixth submarines are planned to be delivered to Russia’s
Black Sea Fleet this year.
