spokesman added. "Under the combat training program, the advanced Project 885 multipurpose nuclear-powered submarine of Russia’s Northern Fleet has successfully launched a sea-based Kalibr cruise missile from the underwater position in the Barents Sea to hit a coastal practice target at the Chizha range in the Arkhangelsk Region [in north Russia]," Serga said. The
launch of the cruise missile was supervised by representatives of the
Northern Fleet’s command and submarine forces staying aboard the
large anti-submarine warfare ship Vice-Admiral Kulakov at sea. The nuclear-powered submarine Severodvinsk went to sea several days ago. The Project 885 Yasen-class lead nuclear-powered submarine Severodvinsk joined the Russian Navy in June 2014. During the submarine’s operational evaluation, its crew tested its weapons, equipment and systems in various operational modes, including during its deep submergences. The nuclear-powered submarine Severodvinsk is furnished with automated control systems, sonar detection and radio technical equipment, torpedo tubes and missile systems. © Copyright 2016 TASS.
