"It is planned to create 100KW and 1 MW nuclear power plants for the Defense Ministry. The unique generators have no analogues in the world. They are necessary for Arctic development," he said.
He described the power plants as a small-sized nuclear battery. "The megawatt-class plant can be transportable and towed by a cross-country tug on a transportation platform. It makes it mobile and capable of power supplies to non-stationary objects," IKIP representative said. |

The project is very labor-intensive and costly. "The investment project is to be implemented in five-six years. As preliminary cost estimates of both plants exceed 20 bln rubles and disbursing of such amounts of budget finances takes time and is not easy to obtain the Technonikol Corporation may agree to act as the investor," he said.
The project will be implemented on the basis of a broad interdepartmental scientific and production cooperation and interaction with Rosatom enterprises in the creation of the reactor. It is necessary to design the transportation platform, power distribution systems, etc. "If we launch the project today the first sample can appear in 2022-2023," IKIP representative said. © Copyright 2017 TASS.
