The Project 667BDR nuclear-powered submarine was laid down by the Sevmash Shipyard in Severodvinsk in north Russia on January 31, 1980. Before 2008, the submarine was part of Russia’s Northern Fleet. In September 2008, the submarine left the Northern Fleet to head for the Pacific Fleet’s naval base in Vilyuchinsk in Kamchatka.
