Russia's UEC designs fifth-generation marine engines.
ODK-Saturn in Rybinsk of the United Engine Corporation (UEC) is creating the necessary potential for the development of fifth-generation marine gas-turbine engines, the UEC said.

"Jointly with industry institutes, including the Baranov TsIAM and the Krylov scientific center, a set of R&D has been fulfilled to form the concept of fifth-generation marine gas-turbine engines," ODK-Saturn Managing Director Viktor Polyakov said.
"We carried out preliminary design and drafted the technical assignment and corresponding proposals for the federal goal-oriented program," he added.
The UEC is implementing at ODK-Saturn a program to design and serially produce marine engines and gas turbines. In 2017 ODK-Saturn successfully completed the following R&D to design and produce gas turbines: M70FRU-R (reverse), Agregat DKVP, M90FR. The enterprise is ready for the serial production of marine engines.
"While designing the marine gas-turbine engines we embarked on a uniform path and provided possibilities for the development of another generation on their basis," ODK-Saturn Designer General Yuri Shmotin said.
"The Russian-made marine engines are distinguished against Ukrainian ones produced with the technologies of the 1960-1980s by higher reliability promoted by stricter requirements to the production of the main units. They have lower fuel consumption and extended inter-overhaul resource. The gas turbine marine engines of the ODK are universal and can be installed on warships of various class. The available line of engines is sufficient to satisfy the demand for modern ships," he said.
