The faulty 10D49 engine produced by Kolomna enterprise is the main unit of one of the two diesel gas turbines M55R. A source in the defense industry said the second boost gas-turbine engine with a Ukrainian-made reducer is operating properly. Kolomna specialists are repairing the faulty engine in the engine room of the warship, a source in Transmashholding told FlotProm. Kolomna enterprise is a part of the holding. He said the hull of the Admiral Gorshkov will not be cut to extract the engine.
Some units of the engine will be extracted and shipped to Kolomna for inspection and repairs or replacement. Crankshaft units will also be sent to the enterprise.
"A taskforce has already compiled a draft act about the reasons of the breakdown. It is too early to disclose them. The information will be available in mid-February," the source said.
Adviser to the CEO of Zvezda diesel engine maker Yevgeny Lerman told FlotProm the breakdown could have been caused either by production defects or an operational mistake. Zvezda-made reducers will be installed on the next frigates together with gas-turbine engines of Saturn enterprise, he said.
