"I hope that the planned construction terms will be kept. [Those programs] are vitally important for the strengthening of our fleet, maintenance of our security, and protection of the country`s interests in blue and green waters of the World Ocean," said President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin during an official ceremony.
According to him, the Navy (Voyenno-Morskoy Flot, VMF) has received more than 80 naval platforms, including three nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines, seven nuclear-powered attack underwater combatants and diesel-electric submarines, and 21 surface ships since 2012. "I would point out that we have sustained high rates of the Navy`s rearmament in recent years … We will support our shipbuilding industry and shore up its scientific, human, and technological potential," said Putin.
‘Vladimir Andreev’ and ‘Vasiliy Trushin’ will be delivered to the Navy in 2023 and 2024, respectively. The military service now operates the Project 11711 type ship ‘Ivan Gren’. The second ship of the class, ‘Petr Morgunov’, is planned to be commissioned before the end of the year.
The Project 11711 LLS is designed to conduct beach landings and transport weapon systems and items of military hardware. She can also conduct humanitarian missions. The naval platform has a full displacement of 5,000 t and is 120 m long and 16.5 m wide. She produces a speed of 18 knots and an endurance of 30 days. The ship features a 100-strong crew.
The Ro-Ro-type LLS features a pass-through landing deck, two-island superstructure, and aft-mounted hangar for a rotorcraft. The ship`s hull and superstructure are made of steel. The Project 11711 LLS transports 13 main battle tanks, 36 armoured personnel carriers, 300-380 servicemen, or a 1,500 t cargo.
The ship`s AD is provided by two AK-630M and one AK-630M-2 Duet CIWSs. The LLS can transport one or two Ka-29 (Helix-B) military transport rotorcraft or Ka-52K Katran (Hokum-B) combat helicopters.
