“Also, the Project 22800 Karakurt-class corvette Odintsovo built for the Baltic Fleet has arrived in Severodvinsk [in north Russia],” the press office said.
“After preparatory work is completed, the crews of the advanced ships will start to test shipborne missile systems in the Barents and White Seas with the support of Northern Fleet forces,” the press office added.
The corvettes sailed to the Northern Fleet via inland waterways and the White Sea-Baltic Canal.
Earlier, the Black Sea Fleet’s Project 22160 lead corvette Vasily Bykov performed a passage to the Northern Fleet’s White Sea naval base. Being supported by Northern Fleet forces, the ship will test its weapons in the White Sea.
The Northern Fleet has wide experience in supporting trials of advanced ships and submarines, including test firing of various weapons.
In 2020, the Northern Fleet has supported the trials of the Project 955A Borei-A class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Knyaz Vladimir (Dolgorukiy-class) and are supporting the tests of the Project 885M Yasen-M class nuclear-powered attack submarine Kazan (Graney).
The Buyan class Russian designations Project 21630 Buyan and Project 21631 Buyan-M, are series of corvettes developed by the Zelenodolsk Design Bureau for the Russian Navy. The Buyan-M is a stretched version of the 500-ton Buyan ship. The Buyan-M features a larger and more sophisticated weapons payload including state-of-the-art missile systems.
The Buyan-M class corvette is armed with one 100 mm A-190-01 naval gun, two 30 mm AK-630-M2 CIWS (Close-IN Weapon Systems), one Pantsir-M CIWS (Stavropol) jamming-resistant naval close-in weapon system, 8 UKSK VLS cells for Kalibr or Oniks anti-ship cruise missiles, 8 Komar surface-to-air missiles, one DP-65 anti-saboteur grenade launcher and two 14.5 mm KPV machine guns.
