“It set passive jamming and dummy targets by electronic warfare in the Barents Sea to defend the warship from precision missiles,” it said. A week ago the frigate tested Poliment-Redut air defense weapon and radars. Su-24 and An-26 aircraft flew over the warship at various altitudes and distances.
The trials of the frigate began on November 20, 2019 in the White Sea and comprise several stages. The frigate test fired Kalibr and Onix missiles at coastal and sea targets. In early December 2019, the frigate sailed from Severodvinsk to Severomorsk and held a series of trials in the Barents Sea. The navymen trained interaction with aviation and submarines and tested radars and sonars. The frigate is to join the Northern fleet after acceptance trials are completed.
The Admiral Kasatonov is a new generation frigate belonging to Project 22350, Admiral Gorshkov-class. The vessel was professed to be the "Master of the Sea" by Russian military leaders. The Admiral Kasatonov was laid on November 26, 2009, and floated on December 12, 2014.
Frigates of project 22350 are designated to fight submarines and warships in oceans and seas and to repel air attacks both independently and within formations. The hull of the frigates is flush-decked. It has a three-island superstructure, one mast-turret and one steel funnel. Stealth technologies were used in the construction to make the warship practically invisible for the radars of the potential adversary.
The displacement is close to 4450 tons, the length is 135 meters. Diesel gas-turbine power plant has a capacity of 65000 horsepower. The warship is armed with a new 130mm artillery gun A-192, anti-ship, anti-submarine and anti-aircraft missiles, including Kalibr and Poliment-Redut. It can carry a Ka-27 helicopter or its modifications.
