GRSE and Naval Group sign a MoU to collaborate.

According to a press release published by United News of India on September 9, 2021, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd., (GRSE), a Mini Ratna Category 1 Defence PSU leading warship building company of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Naval Group, a leader in European Naval Defence Industry, to collaborate in the field of surface ship that caters to fulfil the requirement of India and International Naval Forces.

The MoU was signed by Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), Director (Personnel) GRSE. Under the MoU, the two entities will collaborate and engage to offer high-end surface ships based on sea proven design developed for the export market. Having built over 100 warship for Indian and foreign naval forges, GRSE will work closely with French and Indian industries.

The MoU seeks to leverage the capabilites of both firms for meeting the growing requirements of the shipbuilding industry and offer a robust world class product utilising the State-of-the-art capabilites of both the organisations. This blend of modern technology, innovation and management of resources by Indian and French naval industrial leaders will be a real value proposition for international navies.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd, abbreviated as GRSE, is one of India's leading shipyards, located in Kolkata, West Bengal. It builds and repairs commercial and naval vessels. Presently GRSE has also started building export ships in a mission to expand its business.

Founded in 1884 as a small privately-owned company on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, it was renamed as Garden Reach Workshop in 1916. The company was nationalised by the Government of India in 1960. It was awarded the Miniratna status, with accompanying financial and operational autonomy in September 2006. It is the first Indian shipyard to build 100 warships.
