The Haguro (DDG-180) is the second Maya-class guided missile destroyer which is in service with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). The ship was laid down in January 2018, launched in July 2019, and commissioned in March 2021.
The Haguro destroyer was built by Japan Marine United Corporation, a Japanese shipbuilding marine engineering and Service Company headquartered in Yokohama, Japan. The Maya-class is powered by a COGLAG (Combined Gas turbine-electric And Gas turbine) propulsion system including two General Electric IHI/GE LM2500-30 gas turbines, two propulsion motors, and two two-axis variable pitch propellers. The ship can reach a top speed of 30 knots (56 km/h).
The Maya-class destroyer has a crew of 300 personnel. She has an overall length of 169,9 m, a maximum width of 21m, a depth of 13 m, and a draft of 6.4 m. She has a full load displacement of 10,250 tons.
The Maya-class is armed with one 5-inch (127 mm)/62 Mk. 45 Mod 4 naval gun, eight Type 17 anti-ship missiles in quad canisters, two 20 mm Phalanx CIWS (Close-In Weapon System), and two HOS-302 triple torpedoes able to launch Mark 46, Type 97 / Type 12 torpedoes and 96-cell Mk. 41 Vertical Launching System able to fire SM-2MR Standard Surface-to-Air Missile, SM-3 Anti-Ballistic Missile, SM-6 Standard Anti-Air Warfare Missile, and Type 07 VL-ASROC Japanese anti-submarine missile.
