Russia previously announced a deal in November which outlined the creation of a logistical support center in Sudan where repairs and resupply operations would take place, as well as providing rest for crew members.
The facility’s capacity will be capped at 300 military and civilian personnel, as well as four ships – including nuclear-powered vessels and the deal will stand for 25 years.
Under the deal Russia will also be given the right to transport weapons, ammunition and equipment via Sudan’s ports and airports.
Russia signed a deal in May, 2019, with Sudan, outlining military and civilian nuclear cooperation, which is set to last seven years.
The Admiral Grigorovich-class, also referred to as Krivak IV class, Russian designation Project 11356Р/М, is a class of frigates built by the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad for the Russian Navy. The first of the class, the Admiral Grigorovich, was commissioned in 2016. It is in service by the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
The Admiral Grigorovich-Class frigates have been designed to conduct anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare and anti-air warfare missions. The Admiral Grigorovich Class incorporates a stealthy hull design developed by the Severnoye Design Bureau. The hull and superstructures were designed to have low radar, acoustic and infrared signatures.
The Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate is armed with one 100 mm A-190 Arsenal naval gun, UKSK VLS (Vertical Launching System) cells able to launch Kalibr, Oniks or Zircon anti-ship cruise missiles, 24 3S90M VLS cells for 9M317M surface-to-air-missiles, two AK-630 CIWS (Close-In Weapon System), 8 Igla-S or Verba air defense missile systems, two double 533 mm torpedo tubes and one RBU-6000 rocket launcher.
