The electric torpedo (ET-1E for its export variant) has been developed by the Region State Research and Production Enterprise, which is the largest Russian developer of torpedoes and air-launched weapons.
The torpedo can hit any surface, submarine, and coastal targets at a distance of up to 18 km (11 mi) amid electronic countermeasures and even in shallow waters and under ice. It can be launched from submarines equipped with 533mm torpedo tubes.
TASS reported earlier that the electric torpedo ET-1E had undergone tests on nuclear-powered and diesel-electric submarines, confirming its deployment safety.
It was also reported that it could be equipped with additional modules due to its modular design. While accomplishing tasks, it can take a number of decisions on its own, including jamming avoidance response.
The ET-1E was unveiled by KTRV at the Army 2022 international military-technical forum, which was held at the Patriot congress and exhibition center in Kubinka near Moscow on August 15-21.
