At the beginning of the exercise, the crewmen of Admiral Panteleyev practiced preparing the ship for a battle and a cruise to the assigned area. While in the Peter the Great Gulf, the ship will take on board a Kamov Ka-27PL (Helix) ASW helicopter for joint training. The enemy will be simulated by a Pacific Fleet diesel-electric sub.
In the spring, Admiral Panteleyev accomplished tasks in the Asia-Pacific region, during which the crew held a number of drills, practiced air defense, which also involved aircraft of the Pacific Fleet’s air arm.
Admiral Panteleyev is an Udaloy-class destroyer of the Russian Navy. She is named after Yuri Aleksandrovich Panteleyev. She was commissioned on May 1, 1992.
The Udaloy class, Soviet designation Project 1155 Fregat and Russian designation Project 11551 Fregat-M, are a series of anti-submarine guided-missile destroyers built for the Soviet Navy, seven of which are currently in service with the Russian Navy.
Twelve ships were built between 1980 and 1991, while the thirteenth ship built to a modified design, known as Udaloy II class, followed in 1999.
The Udaloy class are generally considered the Soviet equivalent of the American Spruance-class destroyers. There are variations in SAM and air search radar among units of the class. Based on the Krivak class, the emphasis on anti-submarine warfare (ASW) left these ships with limited anti-surface and anti-air capabilities.
The destroyer has a length of 163 m (535 ft), a beam of 19.3 m (63 ft), and a draught of 6.2 m (20 ft), and they can reach a top speed of 35 knots (65 km/h; 40 mph).
The ship is armed with two AK-100 100 mm naval guns, eight SS-N-14 Silex anti-ship missiles, 64 VLS cells for SA-N-9 Gauntlet surface-to-air missiles, eight 533 mm torpedo tubes for Type 53 torpedoes, and twenty-four RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launchers.
