The delivery of this vessel is scheduled for 2026, and it represents the first of its kind to be equipped with such a system. The Poseidon will be tasked with various submarine missions, including diving operations, submarine rescue, and underwater surveillance.

ABB’s supply scope for the Poseidon includes the Onboard DC Grid, transformers, alternators, a battery system, and the PEMS power and energy management system. These components aim to fulfill the Navy's requirements for dynamic positioning, position keeping, system reliability, and redundancy.

The Onboard DC Grid is intended to enhance efficiency and flexibility for the vessel's operations, with the battery system designed to manage peak power demands during rescue missions. Additionally, the power and energy management system is expected to optimize the use of the vessel’s power resources.

This contract with ABB also provides the Spanish Navy access to ABB’s global service network, which offers support throughout the vessel’s lifecycle. As environmental regulations evolve, the Poseidon’s power system, including the Onboard DC Grid, is expected to be adaptable for integrating future energy sources.
