It provides an effective understanding of activities, events, and trends in the maritime domain that could pose threats to safety, security, economy, or the environment of a state.
The system consists of a versatile mothership with a multi-purpose hangar that can support helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) as needed.
The mothership is designed for launching and recovering vehicles in high-sea states and can be adapted to different roles through the use of ISO containers for equipment storage.
VANGUARD combines expertise from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS in naval systems integration, Salt Ship Design AS in ship design for challenging waters, and Kongsberg Maritime AS in ship equipment. This collaboration ensures a high-quality and adaptable system based on their extensive experience in the field.
One of the key advantages of the VANGUARD System is its efficient "Design to Purpose" procurement process, which involves customer involvement in the design phase and local yard participation in the building process. This approach results in a relevant, state-of-the-art ship with reduced building time.
Noteworthy features of the VANGUARD System include a design that provides a survey area twice the size of conventional Navy vessels, adherence to the highest IMO (International Maritime Organization) standards with military reinforcements, and significantly lower procurement and maintenance costs compared to traditional Navy vessels, resulting in approximately 50% reduced life cycle costs.
