The handover ceremony was conducted on October 21, 2023, in Lorient, France, with an official delegation from the UAE, led by His Highness Sheikh Saeed bin Hamdan al Nahyan, Commander of the UAE Navy.

Ordered by the UAE from Naval Group in 2019, the Bani Yas is part of a contract for two corvettes. After its launch in December 2021, the Bani Yas departed Lorient on October 23, 2023, and is expected to arrive in the UAE in early December. The sister ship, Al Emarat, launched on May 13, 2022, is currently preparing for its sea trials. Pierre Eric Pommellet, CEO of Naval Group, remarked on the occasion, noting the delivery of the Bani Yas as the first unit in this program.

The Bani Yas class corvettes, incorporating the Gowind® family's modular design, are equipped with contemporary technologies. The UAE Navy has also received training in the operational use of these vessels, as part of the project's wider scope.

The Gowind® corvette model has been selected by various navies, with a total of 12 units ordered, many of which are being built locally in different countries as part of technology transfer agreements.

These corvettes are multi-mission surface combatants, designed to handle a range of security and defense challenges. They are equipped with Naval Group's SETIS Combat Management System, innovative design features, and the latest generation of sensors and weapons. The Gowind® class is designed to be versatile, capable of countering multiple types of threats.

The Gowind class corvettes feature several notable attributes, including high-performance warfare capabilities, user-friendly automated systems, and capacity for deploying various assets.

They are designed with potential for future upgrades and modifications. The technical specifications of the Gowind® class include an overall length of 102 meters, a beam of 16 meters, and a displacement of 2,800 tons.
