As a revision of Project 09552, also recognized as Project 955A or "Borei-A," this submarine represents the seventh lineage of the "Borei" series and the fourth "Borei-A" enhancement.

The submarine is designed for assignment with the Pacific Fleet. The construction of the "Emperor Alexander III" SSBN, marked with hull number 207, was carried out in Severodvinsk's Northern Machine-Building Enterprise, a subsidiary of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).

The project was fulfilled under an agreement inked with the Russian Ministry of Defense on May 25, 2012, authorizing the assembly of four SSBNs in the 955A series (09552, "Borei-A") designated with hull numbers 205, 206, 207, and 208.

The submarine can operate at depths up to 400 meters, with its maximum diving depth being 480 meters. She is built for an autonomous operation period of 90 days and can accommodate a crew of 107, including 55 officers.

Regarding dimensions, Imperator Alexander III has a surface displacement of 14,720 tons and an underwater displacement of 24,000 tons. She measures 170 meters in length, has a maximum hull width of 13.5 meters, and an average draft of 10 meters.

The submarine is powered by a nuclear reactor, and her propulsion system comprises a steam turbine with a gearbox, a single propeller shaft, and a water jet propulsor.

Imperator Alexander III's arsenal includes six 533mm torpedo tubes for launching torpedoes, torpedo rockets, cruise missiles, and mines. She is also equipped with R-30 (SS-NX-30) "Bulava" ballistic missiles, with a carrying capacity of 16 such missiles, and features portable air defense missile systems, specifically the "Igla-1M" and "Verba."
