Russian Navy to receive refurbished aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov in 2024.

 According to information published by Tass on August 14, 2023, the Russian Navy will welcome back the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov and the cruiser Admiral Nakhimov in 2024.

Her full displacement stands at 58,600 tons. The carrier spans 305 meters in overall length, with a waterline length of 270 meters. Her beam measures 72 meters overall and 35 meters at the waterline, and Admiral Kuznetsov possesses a draft of 10 meters.

Propelling this massive vessel is a combination of steam turbines powered by eight turbo-pressurized boilers. These, along with four shafts, output a total of 200,000 hp.

The system is complemented by supplementary turbines and a blend of turbo and diesel generators, allowing the ship to achieve speeds of up to 29 knots.

The Kuznetsov's armament includes six AK-630 anti-aircraft guns, eight CADS-N-1 Kashtan CIWS, and twelve P-700 Granit missiles. Her aviation capabilities comprise 18 Su-33, 6 MiG-29K, 4 Ka-31, and 2 Ka-27 aircraft.

This carrier was constructed at the Black Sea Shipyard in Nikolayev, within the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR), and was launched in 1985. By 1995, she was integrated into the Russian Navy's operations.

The vessel began an overhaul and modernization program in 2017, with the intention of extending its service life. This overhaul has seen a number of challenges, including an accident in a drydock in 2018 that caused significant damage to the ship. Fires and other repair-related issues have also been encountered, pushing back the expected completion date of the overhaul.
