This test was conducted with the collaboration of Navantia, the Navy, and the Ministry of Defence, indicating a significant step towards the submarine's final delivery post a series of further tests.
The venture of constructing four S-80 submarines, of which S-81 is a part, marks a technological leap for Navantia, the Navy, and the Spanish industrial sector. This programme has facilitated Navantia’s involvement in the new Technical Office (OTACV) aimed at introducing a new support methodology, as it becomes a Technical Design Authority.
Expressing acknowledgment for the efforts of all involved, Navantia's president, Ricardo Domínguez, noted that navigating at maximum operational depth is a symbolic achievement for the Ministry of Defence, the Navy, Navantia personnel, and the collaborating industry.
The successful navigation test of S-81 not only progresses Navantia's submarine construction programme but also reflects on Spain’s evolving defence capabilities and its industrial and technological base.
Technical data
