She will now be fitted with signal intelligence equipment under the care of the National Defence Radio Establishment (FRA). The new ship will have better manueverability and will give the Swedish Armed Forces and The National Defence Radio Establishment personnel a better living environment onboard, with a higher standard.

In addition, her electromagnetic compatibility, or EMC-capabilities will be improved. This means that the number of disrupting signals that the ship makes will be reduced.

In addition to the signal to the Signals Intelligence equipment installed by FRA, the ship is equipped with sensors for naval intelligence. HSwMS Artemis will replace HMS Orion.

HSwMS Artemis has a displacement of 2200 tons and a length of 74.6 meters (244 feet 9 inches), with a beam of 14 meters. The intelligence ship is powered by four diesel generators with a combined output of 990kW. She has accommodation for a crew of 35 with 35 cabins and 40 bunks.

HSwMS Orion

HSwMS Orion boasts a displacement of 1,400 tons and measures 61.2 meters (200 feet 9 inches) in length, 11.7 meters (38 feet 5 inches) in beam, and 3.8 meters (12 feet 6 inches) in draught. Her propulsion is derived from two Hedemora diesel engines, which grant the ship a top speed of 12 knots (equivalent to 22 km/h or 14 mph).
