Euronaval 2024: SAAB to Showcase Revolutionary Autonomous Ocean Core for Uncrewed Naval Operations.

At the upcoming Euronaval 2024, international naval and maritime defense exhibitions, scheduled from November 4-7, 2024, in Paris, France, Swedish Company Saab will present a live demonstration of its cutting-edge Autonomous Ocean Core (AOC) system. This advanced platform is engineered to revolutionize uncrewed maritime operations, providing small- and medium-sized vessels with robust autonomous control capabilities for both surface and underwater missions. The Autonomous Ocean Core aims to enhance naval operational efficiency by enabling a range of tasks without direct human intervention, thus optimizing personnel deployment and extending mission duration.

The AOC (Autonomous Ocean Core ) system integrates seamlessly with any vessel, regardless of type, through its vessel-agnostic design, making it a versatile solution across various naval and maritime security applications. Vessels equipped with the AOC system can be configured for specific tasks such as offensive assault with missile or torpedo payloads, intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR), mine countermeasures, and electronic warfare. It also supports logistics functions for transporting critical materiel like fuel and ammunition, as well as search-and-rescue missions that minimize crew risk by operating autonomously in challenging or hazardous environments.

A key feature of the Autonomous Ocean Core is its open interface, which allows for flexible integration of mission-specific modules. This "plug-and-play" capability ensures operators can rapidly configure vessels for different scenarios, reducing setup time while maintaining the integrity of built-in security measures. The system is also designed to support advanced autonomy, capable of scaling from basic remote control to fully AI-driven operations. Operators can control AOC-enabled vessels from various command centers, whether stationed on land, at sea, or even airborne, making it adaptable to a wide range of tactical needs.

Saab’s AOC system includes sophisticated navigation and safety mechanisms, such as collision avoidance, autonomous route planning, and secure docking capabilities. It is built on a scalable, open framework that allows users to expand the system’s intelligence and autonomy levels through software development kits (SDKs) and third-party add-ons. This adaptability and ease of use position the Autonomous Ocean Core as a significant technological advancement, giving navies an edge by automating key maritime functions and enabling uncrewed fleets to operate independently for extended periods in complex environments.

Euronaval is one of the world’s premier international naval and maritime defense exhibitions, held biennially in Paris, France. Organized by the French Navy and the GICAN (Groupement des Industries de Construction et Activités Navales), Euronaval serves as a platform where governments, defense organizations, industry leaders, and naval technology developers gather to showcase innovations in naval defense, maritime security, and technologies related to naval construction and maritime operations.

Euronaval presents advanced technologies in surface ships, submarines, uncrewed systems, cybersecurity, and autonomous technologies, covering a broad spectrum of defense and security solutions. The event attracts a global audience, including military officials, policymakers, and industry professionals from over 100 countries, providing a forum for unveiling new technologies and partnerships. Major defense companies, such as Saab, Thales, and Naval Group, regularly use Euronaval to launch products and discuss advancements in areas such as underwater warfare, intelligence systems, and anti-submarine technology.

Since its founding in 1968, Euronaval has evolved to reflect shifts in the maritime defense landscape, focusing increasingly on areas like uncrewed systems, AI-driven technologies, and cybersecurity alongside traditional defense topics.

By showcasing this system at Euronaval, Swedish Company Saab emphasizes its commitment to advancing autonomous maritime solutions, meeting the evolving needs of modern navies for increased tactical flexibility and operational reach.
