During its stay, INS Tabar will be at the center of several professional interactions between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy. These engagements aim to deepen maritime cooperation and enhance bilateral relations. The annual bilateral naval exercise, Konkan, is a key element of this ongoing partnership.

INS Tabar is a stealth frigate constructed in Russia and serves as a crucial component of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet, which is based in Mumbai under the Western Naval Command. Commanded by Captain MR Harish, the frigate carries approximately 280 personnel and is outfitted with an array of advanced weapons and sensors.

India-United Kingdom relations

In 2024, the UK's Littoral Response Group (LRG) arrived in India as part of its deployment to the Indian Ocean region. This engagement included maritime exercises and the notable first-time maintenance of a Royal Navy vessel at an Indian shipyard, demonstrating the practical implementation of the logistics-sharing agreement signed between the two nations in 2022.

Furthermore, the UK plans to deploy its Carrier Strike Group (CSG) to the Indian Ocean in 2025. This deployment aims to conduct joint training and operations with the Indian Navy. These efforts are aligned with the ambitions set out in the India-UK 2030 Roadmap, which includes commitments to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific.
