The Lada-class submarines, designated Project 677, are diesel-electric attack submarines developed for the Russian Navy. These submarines, built by Admiralty Shipyards and designed by the Rubin Design Bureau, follow the Project 636 Kilo-class.

The Lada-class submarines feature a mono-hull design, marking a shift from the double-hull design used in Russian submarines since the 1940s. This design reduces the surface displacement to 1,765 tons, enhancing maneuverability and stealth. The full submerged displacement is 2,700 tons, and the maximum diving depth is 300 meters​​.

These submarines are equipped with hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells, which allow for low noise operation and extended submerged endurance of up to 45 days. The propulsion system includes two diesel generators, a main electric propulsion motor, and a single shaft driving a seven-blade propeller, providing a submerged speed of 21 knots and a surface speed of 10 knots​​.
