OSN, a joint venture between Fincantieri (51%) and Leonardo (49%), will deliver these advanced frigates as part of the multi-year FREMM program aimed at modernizing the Italian naval fleet.

The "FREMM EVO" frigates represent the latest in naval technology and performance, building on technological advancements from previous defense initiatives and the Mid Life Upgrade project for Horizon-class destroyers. These new ships will enhance the Italian Navy's operational capabilities with cutting-edge systems, including advanced anti-drone measures and the ability to manage unmanned systems above, on, and below the water.

The ships will incorporate the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) features found in current FREMM ASW units, ensuring continuity in capabilities while introducing new advancements. Construction will take place at Fincantieri's shipyards in Riva Trigoso and Muggiano, with the first vessel expected in 2029 and the second in 2030.

Key upgrades for the "FREMM EVO" include a cyber-resilient Ship Management System, modernized air-conditioning and electrical distribution systems, and environmentally friendly solutions for the Platform System.

The Combat System will feature the advanced SADOC 4 Combat Management System, dual-band radar sensors for TBM defense, and enhanced electronic warfare, artillery, and missile systems. Additionally, the ships will have improved sonar suites, communication systems, and tactical data links to ensure top-tier interoperability.
