The PN deployed its advanced frigate, BRP Jose Rizal, while the JMSDF contributed the guided-missile destroyer JS Sazanami.

The MCA included a series of joint exercises designed to enhance interoperability and tactical proficiency between the two naval forces. Key activities during the exercise included communications drills (COMMEX), tactical maneuvering operations, and a photographic exercise (PHOTOEX).

The joint exercise marks a significant step in the military relationship between Japan and the Philippines, particularly in the naval sphere. Historically, both nations have recognized the strategic importance of strong maritime defense cooperation, given their shared concerns over regional security dynamics, including the ongoing disputes in the South China Sea.

In recent years, Japan and the Philippines have increased their defense collaboration. This has included mutual visits by naval vessels, combined training exercises, and the exchange of strategic information. The JMSDF and PN have previously participated in multilateral exercises, but the August 2nd MCA represents the first dedicated bilateral exercise between the two forces.

Japan's support to the Philippines extends beyond joint exercises. Japan has been a significant partner in modernizing the Philippine Navy through the provision of equipment, training, and technological assistance.
