Valued at SEK 4.6 billion, this is Sweden's 17th military support package for Ukraine and includes a range of material donations, direct procurement, and financial assistance to address Ukraine's current military needs.

A significant portion of the package addresses Ukraine's naval defense, particularly as Russian threats to Ukrainian merchant vessels continue. These vessels, vital for Ukraine's trade, are regularly guided through mine-cleared routes down to the Bosporus Strait. With heavy fighting also taking place along river front lines, the Ukrainian Navy plays a crucial role in supporting ground forces in these areas.

To reinforce Ukraine’s riverine capabilities, the package includes marine equipment valued at approximately SEK 500 million. This contribution will include six additional Swedish-made Combat Boat 90s, which have become a key asset for Ukraine's naval forces in recent months.

The package also includes a marine supply solution aimed at ensuring the maintenance and resilience of Swedish equipment in Ukrainian service. Additionally, two specialized launching trailers designed to handle various types of vessels, including the Combat Boat 90, will be transferred to aid in boat deployment and recovery after maintenance.

In the context of Ukraine, the CB90 boats could help mitigate Russia's naval advantage by providing Ukraine with rapid-response capabilities for coastal defense, fast assaults, and counter-infiltration missions. Their speed and agility would allow Ukrainian forces to quickly deploy troops, equipment, or supplies across contested waterways, while the boats' armored protection offers resilience against small arms fire and shrapnel. Additionally, the CB90's shallow draft enables operations in areas larger warships cannot access, such as river deltas or shallow coastal waters.

These boats are capable of being armed with various weapons systems, including machine guns, grenade launchers, and missile systems, enabling them to engage enemy vessels and provide fire support for amphibious operations. They can also serve as platforms for reconnaissance and special forces missions, providing Ukraine with a flexible tool for both offensive and defensive naval tasks.
