The CB90, a robust design from the Swedish company Dockstavarvet, is renowned for its versatility and high performance in various maritime roles, including amphibious operations, surveillance, and as a fire support and patrol vessel. These vessels are equipped to handle a myriad of tasks ranging from troop transport—capable of carrying up to 21 marines and 4.5 tons of cargo—to executing complex reconnaissance and attack missions. Armed with advanced weaponry options including machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, and anti-ship missiles, the CB90s are designed for rapid deployment and high maneuverability in shallow waters.
The delivery of these ships marks the culmination of a six-month effort by Metinvest and the Steel Front initiative to enhance the capabilities of the Ukrainian military in response to ongoing regional conflicts. Ukrainian military personnel have been thoroughly trained to operate these advanced vessels, ensuring they are fully prepared for immediate deployment in combat scenarios. This initiative not only strengthens Ukraine's naval operational capabilities but also demonstrates significant advancement in the country's military modernization efforts, supported by both national and international aid.

The strategic importance of these boats is highlighted by their potential roles in current and future security operations, particularly in contested maritime regions. With their advanced technical specifications and versatility, the CB90 boats are poised to play a crucial role in Ukraine's defense strategy, significantly enhancing the nation's ability to protect its waters and interests.
The use of these boats by Ukraine in the Black Sea is crucial in the context of the conflict with Russia, as the Black Sea represents a strategic theater for military operations and commerce. The Ukrainian navy uses these vessels for various defense and surveillance operations in an effort to protect its coastlines and secure essential maritime routes. The stakes in this region are high, as Russia also has a significant presence and continues to exhibit expansionist ambitions, including the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and tensions around strategic islands and maritime rights.
Control over the Black Sea not only influences ground military operations by providing logistical and strike capabilities but also controls vital commercial routes, thus increasing the economic stakes related to this conflict. For Ukraine, maintaining an active and effective naval presence is therefore essential to counter Russian ambitions, protect its sovereignty, and ensure the security of its navigation and coastal infrastructure. In summary, the Black Sea is a critical front in the Ukrainian conflict, where naval operations play a strategic role in the broader context of regional and international security.
