A representative of the Ural Automotive Plant (a subsidiary of the GAZ Group) told Izvestia that Angola has received over 120 trucks in various configurations since the beginning of the year. In late Summer 2016, Luanda got KAMAZ Gorets (Mountaineer) armoured vehicles, a source within Russia`s defense industry confirmed.

"The Angolan side has revealed its interest in the acquisition of the Russian-originated automotive vehicles for its board police service. It worked directly with the manufacturers of the hardware," a military-diplomatic source told Izvestia.

The Gorets armoured truck is intended for the transportation of the personnel on the modern battlefield and protection against bullets and fragments of improvised explosive devices (IED). It is based on the KAMAZ-43501 4x4 all-terrain truck developed by the KAMAZ company (a subsidiary of the Rostec state corporation). Gorets` crew cabin and capsule are armoured at Level 5 GOST R 50963-96 (Level 1 STANAG 4569, all-round protection against 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm ball bullets at a 30 m distance).

The armoured capsule has Level 1 STANAG 4569 anti-mine protection (it protects against the explosion of 2 kg of explosive mass under the vehicle`s belly and against fragments and blasts of F-1 and RGO hand grenades), while the cabin protects the crew against F-1 and RGO hand grenades. According to the official technical specifications, the armoured truck has a length of 6,860 mm, a width of 2,500 mm, a height of 3,300 mm, a full weight of 10,900 kg, a payload of 1,000 kg, and a maximum road speed of 90 km/h. The truck is powered by a diesel engine (240 h.p.). The vehicle features protected fuel tanks. The armoured trucks being delivered to Angola are equipped with run-flat tires and advanced air-cooling units.

The Special Hardware Institute, the developer of the Gorets vehicle, also offers the updated KAMAZ-4326-based Gorets-K 4x4 all-terrain armoured truck. According to the official technical specifications. Gorets-K has a length of 7,565 mm, a width of 2,500 mm, a height of 3,270 mm, a full weight of 11,700 kg, a payload of 900 kg, and a maximum road speed of 90 km/h. It is powered by a diesel engine (240 h.p.).

Gorets-K` crew cabin and capsule are armoured at Level 5 GOST R 50963-96 (Level 1 STANAG 4569, all-round protection against 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm ball bullets at a 30 m distance). The vehicle also has Level 1 STANAG 4569 anti-mine protection (it protects against the explosion of 2 kg of explosive mass under the vehicle`s belly and against fragments and blasts of F-1 and RGO hand grenades).

Both vehicles allow effective protecting of mounted troops against small arms fire. However, it should be noted that they do not have a MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicle) level of anti-mine and anti-IED protection.
