One more regiment of S-400 air defense missile system to cover the airspace of Moscow.
The Russian Aerospace Force (RusAF) has taken delivery of a regiment-size set of S-400 Triumph (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) air defense (AD) missile systems for covering Moscow and the Central Industrial Area, the Russian Defense Ministry’s press office says in a news release.

"At the Kapustin Yar Missile Range in the Astrakhan Region, Russian Aerospace Force crews have conducted an initial live fire exercise using a new regimental set of S-400 Triumph surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems fielded with the RusAF’s air and missile defense branch," the news release says.

According to the press office, the systems are being loaded at a railhead to be moved to a Moscow Region-based SAM regiment of the RusAF’s special AD/BMD large unit.

"The primary mission of the SAM regiments of the RusAF’s special AD/BMD large unit is the air defense of the city of Moscow, Central Industrial Area, top governmental and military installations, industrial and power generation facilities, military forces and lines of communication against air and space attacks," the Defense Ministry explained. The military will have had a total of 16 S-400 regiments by year-end.

The S-400 Triumph SA-21 is a long range surface-to-air missile systems produced by Almaz-Antey. The S-400 Trumph is intended to engage, ECM, radar-picket, director area, reconnaissance, strategic and tactical aircraft, tactical and theatre ballistic missiles, medium-range ballistic missiles and other current and future air attack assets at a maximum range of 400 km, and a altitude of up to 30 km.
