Russian Ministry of Defense received the eighth operational Iskander-M brigade complex
The Russian defense ministry received the eighth operational and tactical Iskander-M brigade complex, the Machine-building Design Bureau said.

Iskander-M is designated to destroy missile complexes and salvo fire weapons, long-range artillery, command and communication posts, as well as aircraft at airfields at a distance of up to 500 kilometers with a flight altitude up to 6 to 50 km. It is equipped with inertial and optical guidance systems for improved firing accuracy and electro-optical seeker for self-homing capability.

"In the framework of a long-term contract the design bureau handed over on November 11 to the Russian defense ministry the eighth operational and tactical missile complex Iskander-M. It is intended to arm a missile brigade," the company said in a press release.

Aid to the military district commander Colonel Yaroslav Roshchupkin earlier told reporters in Yekaterinburg that the complexes were handed over at Kapustin Yar range in Astrakhan region.

The Russian Defence Ministry plans to buy up to 120 Iskander-M tactical missile systems to equip at least five missile brigades of Iskander-M complexes by 2016.
