| Russia Ukraine War 2022

Russia has confirmed the capture of a Ukrainian CV90, tracked armored IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) donated by Sweden which is considered as one of the most modern IFVs in the world. On August 4, 2023, a video was released on the VK account of the Russian Ministry of Defense showing Sergei Shoigu, the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, inspecting a CV9040 vehicle that was abandoned by Ukrainian soldiers following an RPG-7 (Rocket Propelled Grenade) attack.

During the inspection of the captured CV9040, Lieutenant General Andrey Mordvichev drew Minister Shoigu's attention to the lack of spare parts, tools, and accessories in the armored vehicles supplied by Western countries. This absence makes it impossible to carry out operational repairs in combat areas.

This isn't the first time Russian forces have captured a European combat vehicle donated to Ukrainian forces. Just a few days ago, they captured a Leopard 2A6 tank donated by Germany.

The capture of these latest-generation armored vehicles provides Russian troops an opportunity to study the modern technology of the European defense industry. It's surprising that Ukrainian troops have not made plans to destroy these modern vehicles to prevent them from falling into enemy hands.

The CV9040 armored infantry fighting vehicle and the Leopard 2A6 tank represent the latest generation of combat vehicles. They are equipped with the most recent defense innovations and technologies.

Sweden announced in January 2023 that it would be sending 50 CV90 armored combat vehicles to Ukraine. Over the past few months, four companies of mechanized infantry have been trained at secret locations around the country. The exact model of the CV90 IFV sent to Ukraine is the CV9040, which is armed with a 40mm automatic cannon.

By capturing and analyzing the technology in these modern military combat vehicles, Russian forces may gain insights that could be used to upgrade their own military vehicles or devise ways to effectively counteract them in future battles.

The CV9040 is a Swedish infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) developed in the mid-1980s by BAE Systems Hägglunds, a subsidiary of BAE Systems AB. The "90" refers to the decade of its development (the 1990s), and the "40" indicates the caliber of its main weapon, a 40mm automatic cannon. The CV90, which includes the CV9040 variant, is highly regarded as one of the most effective IFVs in the world.

The CV9040 is designed to carry a crew of three (a driver, commander, and gunner), along with seven infantry soldiers. Its main armament, the Bofors 40 mm gun, is an automatic cannon that can be used against both ground and air targets. The vehicle also has several secondary weapons, such as a 7.62mm machine gun, and can be equipped with anti-tank guided missiles.

The vehicle's armor is designed to protect against small arms fire and shell splinters and can be upgraded with additional modular armor for increased protection. The CV90 also has excellent mobility, thanks to its powerful engine and advanced suspension system, making it capable of traversing difficult terrain quickly and smoothly.

The vehicle's advanced electronic systems, which can include battlefield management systems and advanced sensors, provide good situational awareness and command and control capabilities, another crucial aspect of modern warfare.

The CV9040 is in use by the Swedish Army and several other countries. The CV90 family has been continuously upgraded over the years, with improvements to its armor, firepower, and electronic systems to maintain its relevance in modern combat situations.
