South Korean LIG Nex1 showcases Sea Sword II and III at UMEX 2022


At UMEX 2022, taking place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the South Korean firm LIG Nex1 showcased the Sea Sword II and the Sea Sword III Unmanned Surface Vessels.

Sea Sword-II (Haegum II) is an improved version of the original Sea Sword USV which began development in 2015. The Sea Sword II USV is projected to be used for various defense purposes as Conducting underwater/surface reconnaissance and surveillance activities.

While the Sea Sword I (Haeggum I) has a length of 9 meters, the II variant is longer than 3 meters, has a weight of 11 tonnes, and has a 3.5 m beam. The Unmanned Surface Vessel is powered by two diesel engines driving two Kamewa waterjets to reach a top speed of 35 knots.

The Sea Sword III (Haegum III) will have enhanced combat capabilities that would enable a 24-hour vigilance mission, furthermore, it will be able to carry up to eight personnel, while the variant 2 can only accommodate up to two sailors.

LIG Nex1 is a South Korean firm that develops and produces a wide range of advanced precision electronic systems, including missile, underwater weapon systems, radars, electronic warfare, avionics, tactical communication systems, fire control systems, naval combat systems, and electro-optics.
